Welcome to Google Circuits

Google Circuits aim to chronicale each and every racing circuit on the planet. These tracks are located in Google Earth, bookmarked and captured before being uploaded along with a brief description and background.

What Is Google Circuits?

Quite simply, a site about racing circuits. Using WordPress as a content management system and Google Earth, Google Circuits captures aerial views of all the racing tracks from around the world. Photographed from high above the surface, every corner, building and run-off area can be seen in amazing detail. Google Circuits presents these images along with extra information on a regular basis, and the Google Earth KMZ file is available to download for free.

How Do Find The Circuit I Want?

Currently, the KMZ file that is the backbone of Google Circuits list about 2,000 racing tracks. As I’m sure you can imagine, this is quite a lot and thus, a simple way of navigating the site is required. In fact, getting around Gogle Circuits couldn’t be much simpler than it currently is; just click on one of the continent links at the top of the page, and then scroll down the alphabetical list until you get to the track you are looking for.

At the bottom of the homepage is a tag cloud, which will list all the popular tracks and give readers a quicker link to these, or for a more random way of getting around the site, the central archives page can be accessed by the Archives link at the very top of the site.

Who Writes BlogF1?

BlogF1 is written solely by Oliver White, a 27 year old Briton who loves Top Gear, Father Ted and coffee (although the coffee is more of a necessity). A Formula One fan who started following the sport in the mid-nineties, it wasn’t long before Ollie started discussing the sport with his friends at school. He would spend much of his lunchtime sitting on the playing field making many comparisons between the ruthless charges of Michael Schumacher, the gritty determination of Damon Hill and sheer brilliant speed of Mika Hakkinen.

Moving away to university ended these lively conversations, until one day in 2005 Ollie started a personal blog, aimed at discussing each and every subject he liked. Inevitably, Formula One crept in with some regularity and after a few months of boring everyone with his views and insights into motorsport, he decided to launch a dedicated site to chronicle his passion - BlogF1. From BlogF1 came the odd interest in viewing racing circuits in Google Earth.

It didn’t take long before Ollie had over a thousand circuits in one giant unorganised KMZ and it became clear that the pages on BlogF1 that housed all the tracks were becoming unmanageable. It was at this time that Ollie decided, despite the popularity that had built up over time, that the pages had to temporarily come down. They were removed while Ollie worked hard at creating a new home for them, this very site.

If you need to contact Ollie, the Contact Form is always open 24/7. Feel free to send praise (you could end up on the sidebar or mentioned in an article), notify him of errors or just say “hi”.
